There's a special kind of happy that comes with an email that starts, "We'd love to have you back this year." It means the booth made people smile. It means the photos ended up on desks, fridges, and team Slack channels. And it means someone trusted us enough to say, "Let's do that again."
Since I started Snapbox in 2013, some of my favorite events haven't been one-time gigs at all. They're the ones we return to year after year, where we get to watch a celebration grow and become part of its tradition. Here's what those long-term relationships look like from our side of the booth, and why they mean so much to us.
June Means Wellness Week at Workday
For several years now, June has meant one thing on our calendar: Wellness Week with Workday's Customer Experience team at their Pleasanton headquarters. It's a week built around taking care of each other, and we're honored to be part of it.
What I love most is the familiarity. We know the space, we know the rhythm of the day, and we recognize faces from year to year. There's something sweet about watching coworkers pile into the booth together, knowing we'll be back next June to do it all again. It's a small, joyful way of marking time together.
Workday's events also bring out our event photography services, and honestly, that's some of the most fun I have all year. Stepping away from the booth with my camera lets me capture the moments that happen everywhere else: the laughter between sessions, the candid conversations, the team spirit that makes Wellness Week what it is. Photography has been my heart since 2003, so getting to blend the booth and the camera at one event feels like the best of both worlds.
October Means Casino Night with PeopleSpace
In October, we saddle up for PeopleSpace's annual Charity Casino Night. It's one of the best-loved events in our industry, bringing together partners, clients, and the wider community for an evening of friendly gambling for a good cause.
This year's theme is Boots, Bets & Bourbon, happening Thursday, October 22 from 5 to 9pm at the PeopleSpace San Jose CEC. Guests are encouraged to dust off their boots and cowboy hats, which makes for some seriously fun photos. Alongside the photo booth (yep that's our team!), the night is packed with casino tables, a raffle, a DJ, and a magician.
My favorite part is how the evening ends. The Most Spirited and Most Generous guests take home trophies, and they get to choose which charities receive the night's proceeds. It's a celebration with real heart behind it, and seeing so many familiar faces from the industry year after year makes it feel like a reunion. We're so proud to help capture the fun.
December Means the Children's Holiday Party at Gensler Silicon Valley
When December rolls around, we head to Gensler Silicon Valley for their Children's Holiday Party. This one is a true labor of love. The employees from the office organize the whole celebration and decorate the space themselves, and you can feel that care the moment you walk in.
The highlight, of course, is Santa. Every child under the age of 12 receives a present from him, and the excitement in the room is contagious. Everyone leaves happy, from the littlest guests to the grown-ups who made it all happen.
What makes this party extra special is that it's a chance for families to reconnect and see each other's kids, and how fast they've grown up since last year. The photos become a little time capsule. Look back a few Decembers and you'll see toddlers turning into big kids right before your eyes. We feel lucky to help capture that, one holiday at a time.
What Coming Back Makes Possible
A first event is all about getting to know each other. By the second or third year, something shifts. Here's what a long-term relationship gives both of us:
- We already know the space. Where to set up, where the light falls, how guests flow through the room. Load-in is smoother, and we can spend our energy on the guest experience instead of logistics.
- We know your people and your brand. Custom templates and props land better when we understand what your team loves and what makes them laugh.
- Planning gets easier for you. Fewer emails, fewer questions, more "same as last year, plus one fun new thing."
- We can try new things together. Trust makes room for creativity, whether that's a new backdrop, a different booth like Lune or the AI Sketch Bot, or a prop idea our propmaster has been dreaming up.
- The photos tell a story over time. Year after year, they become a record of how your team and your traditions have grown.
How We Earn the Next Invite
We never take a return booking for granted. Every event is a chance to show we're worth inviting back, and a few things guide how we work:
- Show up prepared. On time, set up early, and ready before the first guest walks over.
- Listen first. Every client has goals, whether it's team bonding, brand visibility, or simply a really fun afternoon. We build the experience around that.
- Keep it fresh. Returning doesn't mean repeating. We like to bring something new each year so the booth still feels like a treat.
- Care about the details. From the template design to the print quality, the little things add up to an experience people remember.
- Follow up with gratitude. A thank-you after every event, because a good relationship doesn't end when we pack up.
As a photographer, I've learned that the best photos come from people feeling relaxed and welcome. The same is true for client relationships. When everyone feels taken care of, the good stuff follows.
Thank You for Having Us Back
To Workday, Waymo, Gensler Silicon Valley, and every client who has invited us back: thank you. Your trust is the best compliment a small business can get, and it's a big part of why I love what we do. We can't wait to see what next year brings.
