Why a photo booth belongs at your holiday party
There's something about holiday parties that brings out everyone's best side. The sweaters come out, the sparkle comes out, and suddenly the coworker who never talks in meetings is wearing reindeer antlers and posing like a pro.
After more than a decade of running booths at Bay Area celebrations, we can tell you the photo booth is where that magic gets captured. It's the spot where teams who've worked on separate floors all year finally squeeze into one frame. It's where grandparents and grandkids end up in the same silly strip. And it's the thing people still talk about in January.
If you're planning a holiday party this year, here's everything we'd want you to know to make your booth a hit.
Book early (seriously, now is the time)
December is the busiest month of the year for event vendors, and photo booths are no exception. The first two weekends of December and the Fridays in between go fast, especially for office parties. Our honest advice: if you have a date, reach out now. Even if your guest count or venue isn't locked in yet, we can hold your spot and fill in the details as your plans come together.
When you reach out, these three things help us get you a quote quickly:
- Your event date and start time
- Your venue or city
- Your estimated guest count
Have those three things? Send them our way and we'll get back to you with a quote. And if December is already looking packed, consider a January "new year" celebration instead. Teams are rested, calendars are clearer, and you'll have your pick of dates.
Picking the right booth for your party
Every holiday party has its own personality, and the right booth depends on the vibe you're going for. Here's how we usually match them up.
- Throwing an office party or team celebration? Our open-air booth or Lune is the way to go. Both fit big groups, keep the line moving, and make it easy to get the whole team in one photo.
- Hosting a festive cocktail party or gala? The Glam Booth or Glambot gives you polished, editorial-style photos that match all that dressed-up energy.
- Got a DJ and a packed dance floor? The Twirl 360 Video Booth is made for high-energy parties. Guests step on, strike a pose, and walk away with a slow-motion video that's ready to share.
- Planning a family gathering or neighborhood party? Ancienne and Soleil are classic, cozy, and easy for every age, from toddlers to grandparents.
Want something people will remember for years? The AI Sketchbot creates a hand-drawn portrait for each guest to take home, so it doubles as a thoughtful holiday gift.
Not sure which one fits? Tell us about your crowd and your space, and we'll help you choose. Adding a second experience is also a great way to spread guests out and keep lines short at bigger parties.
Holiday props and backdrops
This is the fun part! A few touches go a long way toward making your photos feel like your party.
- Backdrops: A gold or silver sequin backdrop is our go-to for holiday parties. It catches the light beautifully and photographs like a dream. For a softer, cozier look, a pillowcase backdrop in a winter white or deep green works great too.
- Classic props: Santa hats, reindeer antlers, oversized ornaments, and "Merry & Bright" signs never go out of style.
- New Year's props: Glittery glasses, tiaras, top hats, and "Cheers!" signs if your party leans toward ringing in the new year.
- Custom props: This is where it gets special. Your company logo, a team inside joke, or a sign with your family name turns everyday props into keepsakes. We design these together from start to finish.
- Custom print templates: Your print and digital overlays can match your party theme, colors, and branding, so every photo feels on brand and ready to share.
One tip from experience: keep props festive but inclusive. Mixing in general winter and celebration props alongside holiday-specific ones means everyone finds something they love.
Planning tips for a smooth booth
A little planning up front makes a big difference on the night of. Here's what we always share with clients:
- Put the booth where the party is. Near the bar or the dance floor is perfect. Tucked in a hallway or a back room, it gets forgotten.
- Plan for space and power. Most booths need roughly a 10 x 10 foot area and a standard outlet nearby. If you're not sure about your venue, send me a photo or floor plan and I'll take a look.
- Time it with the energy. The booth is busiest after dinner and once the music starts. Ask about adding an extra hour if your party runs late. Those last hours often produce the best photos.
- Decide on prints, digital, or both. Prints make a great take-home favor. Digital sharing is quick and easy for teams who want photos on Slack or social right away. Many clients love having both.
- Coordinate with your DJ. If there will be a laser light show, let us know ahead of time. We'll plan around it so your photos stay sharp and your guests keep posing.
For corporate parties, we're also happy to work with your venue coordinator or event team directly so you have one less thing to manage. We provide a certificate of insurance for your venue, just send us their requirements.
