The rebrand

Back in 2013, I started Snapbox Photo Booth Co. with one simple idea: give people a fun, easy way to capture the moments that matter at their celebrations. I had no idea where it would take me. Thirteen years, countless weddings, birthdays, galas, and corporate events later, I'm so excited to share the next chapter with you.

Snapbox Photo Booth Co. and Photos by Rikki are now one family under a new name: The Snapbox Collective.

Where it all began

Every Snapbox story starts with one very special party: my daughter Sofia's first birthday.

I was a brand new dad, and I knew life was about to get a whole lot busier. As much as I was excited for this new chapter, I also knew I would really miss photography and the events associated with it. So I made myself a promise. I would build my own photo booth, and I would have it ready for Sofia's first birthday. It was a challenge, and honestly, that was part of the fun. I pulled together my old camera gear, figured things out as I went, and slowly pieced it together. And build it I did!

Was it perfect? Not even close. Our printer was a trusty little Canon Pixma that took about five minutes to print a single 4x6. Guests definitely learned the meaning of patience that day! But none of that mattered. What mattered was the joy of seeing something I built with my own hands actually work, and watching our family and friends laugh, pose, and take home memorable souvenirs from Sofia's big day. That little homemade booth was the spark. I didn't know it yet, but that day in 2013 was the beginning of Snapbox Photo Booth Co.

From there, the Bay Area welcomed us into so many of its biggest moments. From San Jose to San Francisco, Oakland to Fremont, Walnut Creek to right here in the Tri-Valley, we've been part of first dances, milestone birthdays, company celebrations, and community events. Every one of them taught me something about what people really want from their event: to feel seen, to have fun, and to have something to hold onto afterward.

Growing beyond the booth

As Snapbox grew, so did what we offered. The classic booth was joined by open-air setups, our ever dependable Legacy booth, Lune and Soleil, the Glam Booth, 360 experiences, Glambot, Sketchbot, Video and Audio Guest Books, and up until recently, our Portrait Experience. Each new experience came from listening to clients and asking, "What would make this even more memorable for your guests?"

At the same time, my camera was coming with me everywhere. Photos by Rikki grew from my love of photography, capturing events, portraits, and some of my favorite subjects of all, dance and ballet performances. There's something magical about freezing a moment of movement and emotion in a single frame.

For a long time, these lived as two separate businesses. But more and more, they were showing up at the same events, for the same clients, run by the same person and the same team.

Why we brought them together

Combining Snapbox Photo Booth Co. and Photos by Rikki just made sense, and here's why.

It was already one team. The same people who set up your booth are the same people who care about every photo that comes out of your event. Bringing everything under one name simply reflects how we've been working all along.

It's easier for you. Many of our clients were booking both a booth and photography. Now it's one inquiry, one conversation, one contract, and one point of contact from start to finish. Less juggling for you, more time to actually enjoy your event.

One consistent experience. Whether it's your booth prints, your Glambot clips, or your event photos, you can expect the same level of care, quality, and attention to detail across everything we create.

We're more than a photo booth company now. "Photo Booth Co." described where we started, but it no longer told the full story. Today we create complete event experiences, and we wanted a name with room to keep growing.

Why "Collective"? Because that's exactly what we are: a collection of experiences, creative ideas, and people who love celebrating with you. It's a name that feels both familiar and full of possibility.

The story behind the logos

If you've followed us for a while, you've seen both of our original logos, and you might notice some familiar pieces in the new one. That was completely intentional.

The original Snapbox Photo Booth Co. logo paired a playful hand-lettered "Snap" with a bold "box." The "o" was a camera shutter, and blue brackets framed "box" like a camera viewfinder, and it also represented our very first booth enclosure - a 2'x2' plyboo case that house a ringlight and a tiny 6" screen. It was fun, energetic, and a little bit quirky, just like a photo booth should be.

The Photos by Rikki logo went in a cleaner direction: tall, simple white lettering on a solid blue square. It felt more refined and editorial, fitting for the photography side of the business. And fun fact, it already carried a little tagline at the bottom: "The Snapbox Collective." The idea had been quietly waiting there all along.

The new Snapbox Collective logo brings the best of both together. Here's what carried over:

The shutter. The camera aperture that lived in the "o" of the original Snapbox logo is still right there at the heart of the new one. It's our signature, and it was never going anywhere. The blue. That bright blue has been part of both brands from the start. Now it's the accent that makes the shutter pop. The stacked, centered layout. Inspired by Photos by Rikki, the new logo is stacked and balanced, with "The" on top and "Collective" underneath, spaced out and clean.

And here's what evolved: instead of mixing a script font with a block font, "snapbox" is now one bold, modern, lowercase wordmark. It feels friendlier, more confident, and more unified, which is exactly what this new chapter is about. The dark background gives it a sleek, elevated feel that works just as well for a black-tie gala as it does for a backyard birthday.

What stays the same

Honestly? The most important things. Same team, same services, same heart. I'm still the one answering your emails, planning your setup, and cheering on your guests from behind the booth or the lens. We still serve the whole Bay Area, and we still believe every event deserves to feel personal.

One small update: our email addresses have changed with the rebrand, so please make sure you're reaching us at our new contact info on the website.

So grateful for the pictures Rikki took of my girls’ ballet performance! Such a delight and joy to see my girls captured the way I see them. He has a great eye, great timing, and captures images I wouldn’t think to get (or have the skill for).

Looking ahead

Thirteen years ago, I never imagined Snapbox would become what it is today. I'm so grateful to every client, venue partner, planner, and friend who trusted us with their celebrations and helped us grow into The Snapbox Collective. In addition, receiving feedback such as these only drives us to do better.

This is just the beginning of our next chapter, and I can't wait to create more memories with you. Here's to the next 13 years!

With gratitude,

Rikki
